This contest lasted over 6 months, and was held every Wednesday, as they eliminated
contestants every week, there were 8 on the last night of the finals. I was playing across
town on the West Side at a club called Backstage,(RAZZ-MA-TAZZ) the contest was held at
Bentley's Live (old ENTERPRISE II) (same owner on the South side). I had already had 2 sets
under my belt and 8 Quervo's. I was very relaxed, as the previous contest the year before
in the finals I froze! There were a lot of bad -ass dudes from 4 different states. I did my
antics and had a real blast--very, very fond memories, Funhouse was the band playing, the
lead singer Jimmy is now the lead singer for Punch Judy. Many of those contestants are
still playing!
What's so great about this is the awards show was on a Sunday, I didn't find out I won until the next
day on Monday. I was playing at a bar in Columbus, IN. And the editors of the magazine said that I
should come out, it would be a great time, and that I was one of the nominees for Best Guitarist. Well,
I didn't think I had the 'popularity' figure back then, but won much to my surprise!! I thought Troy from
Ma Kelley was going to win it! Damn, I missed out on all of the festivities. '92 was a very good year for
me! Most of the guys listed on the awards page are still playing! I miss those days! Screamin' rippin',
shreddin' leads in every song! YEAH!
With the studio time won from the guitar contest, we put out a CD with all of my originals.. Got airtime and goodies from
X-103  (WRZX) Indpls.  The girls on the front cover are from top left: Paula Buis, top right: Penny Gill, Bottom right: Elaina
Boden, and I forgot the sweet little Asian girl's name...(so shoot me! the orginal Asian chick didn't show, and Shawn called
this girl up! Paula owns a lingerie show company, Penny married Jessie Dupree from Jackyl, Elaina is doing some thing for
a promotions company, and well I don't know about Betty? (I really wanted this cute Filipino girl named Genevieve, but she
was too shy!) The boys on the back cover: Shawn Flora:bass/vocals still playing in numerous bands, Roger
Bough:guitar/vocals is doing Bluegrass and other projects, Scott Stackhouse: drums/vocals is with Zang! and I don't know
the name of the Asian (Polynesian) dude with the Nunchaku bewteen his legs!
The very first BRISSART shoot! Shawn had
replaced Chris Bippus.
left-right: Scott Stackhous, Shawn Flora,
me, Roger Bough. We played every single
weekend. But after Bentley's Live and
Backstage starting dying down, alternative
and grunge music was taking over
America, we followed suit!
Brissart the second year.... picture taken at
a Broad Ripple photographer's studio. We
played so many gigs and so many venues,
one night we played The Vogue, then tore
down, then went straight downtown to the
best of all time SPORT'S LIVE! Oh...the
stories We could tell!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here, Rich Grillo took Shawn's place, this is
the elevator at SPORT'S LIVE, notice the
'Prince Valiant" haircut dews? Yeah, come
on!!  From Eddie Van Halen to Eddie Vedder,
rock on Seattle wannabe's!!!  LOL! THe best
club EVER! Ricky still owns Ike's an
Jonesy's downtown!!
Me and my 'grunginess' with ARTEMIS @
Zanies Too! Wow! NOTE the MARSHALL
amp in background, yes over 20 years on
the road straight from high school! Am I
giving my age away yet????? Naaaahhhh!!!!
I took a 4 year break then somehow hooked up with these guys. Bea Isaacs (lead singer of DRAMA QUEEN) was the original
singer who called me in for the actual project "LARGE MARGE". Probably one of the best overall HARMONIC vocals,  I've
played with! From left to right: Mark Long-keyboards/vocals (also with ZANG!), me with the 'dew', Tim
Messershmidt-bass/vocals now with Three Chord Orchestra (Don Stuck from X-103 morning show), Jen Self-vocals (intern
DJ at X-103-Jen dated Kenny Wayne Shepard and the infamous Marilyn Manson), the wonderful Dennis
Mullikin-guitars/vocals, and Scott Stackhouse (who's he with now?) Great player/musicians, killer vocalists and ultra good
people. the band's name was ARTEMIS!!!
The BRISSART  REUNION 2000!  All the original guys now with
short or no hair, and the addtion was Mark Long on Keys and vocals.
AH YES!!!  The family band THE BRISSARTS, 2003.  Brandon (guitar) was 18, Brian
(bass) was 13. (Both now with INCENDIARY!) Derek (DRUMS) is the other family
number with a different Father! (ex-ATOMIC BOX, NINE MILES.) iT was a historical
event. (for me).  The STUDS was Brian's band where he played bass and lead
vocals. ANACONDA SLIM was Brandon's band where he did mostly lead vocals.
You should of been at the house the whole week before the show! 3 different
bands and genres at all hours of the day and night at ear blistering levels. We had
many visits from the Indianapolis Police Department!!!!
ATOMIC BOX, my last band before my now existing band ZANG!
Left to right: me, Derek Carmichael: drums, Jason Burke: vocals,
guitar, John Bowers: vocals. (they were all formerly Audio
Addiction and ex members of Nine Miles). Outstanding
players-with personalities  to match!!!
